i bought I LOVE YOU SO MOCHI after ages of wanting to read it, and i gotta say it’s like the cutest book evr.
Kimi Nakamura loves a good fashion statement.
She’s obsessed with transforming everyday ephemera into Kimi Originals: bold outfits that make her and her friends feel brave, fabulous, and like the Ultimate versions of themselves. But her mother sees this as a distraction from working on her portfolio paintings for the prestigious fine art academy where she’s been accepted for college. So when a surprise letter comes in the mail from Kimi’s estranged grandparents, inviting her to Kyoto for spring break, she seizes the opportunity to get away from the disaster of her life.
When she arrives in Japan, she loses herself in Kyoto’s outdoor markets, art installations, and cherry blossom festival–and meets Akira, a cute med student who moonlights as a costumed mochi mascot. What begins as a trip to escape her problems quickly becomes a way for Kimi to learn more about the mother she left behind, and to figure out where her own heart lies.
this book is so lighthearted and fluffy, it’s one of those feel good books that’s just so adorable & perfect.
it made me feel so happy and giddy and just idk like i love reading these light cutesy books, especially in the situation we’re all in currently. it’s the ultimate escape from reality.
i found it to be so well written, with amazing description. it as vivid and explosive with bright colours and alive with rich Japanese culture, which i fell utterly in love with!
i also felt myself somewhat relating to Kimi, what with her not entirely knowing what she wants to do with her life and her journey to learn and understand herself. everything about this book is precious and adorable and wholesome.
and mochi is just yum. so that’s a place. like the pun in the title is just PERFECT.
i’d give it a rating of 4 (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) stars out of 5!
i can’t recommend this book enough, if you’re looking for a lighthearted, adorably tender and wholesome romance to read.
